to Urge Health Care Reform that Protects Wisconsin Families

The US House of Representatives is scheduled to act on the proposed American Health Care Act tomorrow. Today, WAFCA reached out to Wisconsin's congressional delegation to express deep concerns with proposed changes under the AHCA, including reductions in Medicaid funding and decreased supports for private insurance coverage.

View the WAFCA statement and email the following talking points (or other points from the WAFCA statement) to your US Representative:

Any proposed changes to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act should protect Wisconsin's children and families. I am deeply concerned that the American Health Care Act takes us in the wrong direction.

  • 1 in 3 children in Wisconsin is covered by BadgerCare
  • 1 in 5 Wisconsinites has a diagnosable mental health condition
  • Medicaid is the single largest payer in the US for mental health and substance use services
  • Any changes to Medicaid or the ACA should:
    • increase, not decrease, Wisconsinites’ ability to access effective mental health services;
    • recognize current Wisconsin Medicaid costs and covered populations and not penalize our state for implementing a modified Medicaid expansion or for innovations and efficiencies in managed and community-based care
    • promote payment for performance rather than volume of services and require states to pay providers at a comparable rate to Medicare.
