No life is not worth living. But what is important is that you experience your life as worth living—one that is satisfying, and one that brings happiness. ― Marsha M. Linehan, DBT Skills Training: Manual For adults and adolescents, problematic behaviors can evolve as a way to cope with a situation or an attempt to solve a problem. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based practice that assumes individuals are doing the best they can, and that learning new behaviors will promote health and well-being. This workshop will provide participants an opportunity to spend time looking at and practicing DBT skill in depth. Whether you are new to DBT or have some experience with DBT, this workshop will provide an understanding of the underlying philosophies of DBT, as well as opportunities to practice skills discussed in the workshop. Topics will include: the philosophy behind DBT, a look at the four traditional modules in DBT, a review of the skills taught within each module, how to conduct individual and DBT groups, and considerations for starting a DBT group. In addition, there will be a discussion of the fifth module “Walking the Middle Path.” This module is specifically helpful for teaching teens and their care givers ways to enhance their relationship through DBT skills. Throughout the day, variety of teaching methods will be used to enhance learning. There will be some lecture and discussion. In addition, there will be several opportunities to practice some of the skills. This will be accomplished in both the large group as well as small group activities. Learning Objectives:
