Communicating with Confidence: Refreshing Foundational Skills for Counselors & Clinicians Presented by Julie Bates-Maves, PhD, LPC

Description: Refreshers can be refreshing! Whether you’re new to the field or a seasoned helper, reviewing the basics can help us work intentionally with clients. Attend this training to review and refresh our foundational communication skills, including reflection, emotion identification, immediacy, confrontation, and theme development. Instructions for writing a treatment plan and translating that plan into case notes will be reviewed. SOAP note format and recommendations for efficient note writing will also be discussed.
Learning Objectives:
Presenter Information: Julie Bates-Maves is a Professor of Clinical Mental Health Counseling in the department of Counseling, Rehabilitation, and Human Services at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. Her teaching and scholarly interests are centered on trauma, substance use disorder, and understanding and addressing stigma to ensure effective mental health care.
