Honoring Veteran Culture: Empower the Veteran and Strengthen the Family

Being a Veteran can bring extraordinary pains, sacrifices, and opportunities. The knowledge and tools provided during this webinar will equip you to empower the Veteran and strengthen the families you serve. Join Mathew and Michelle Kamin-Lindsay for this dynamic and interactive training. After this training you will be able to:
  • Accurately identify a Veteran
  • Assess for Veteran specific issues
  • Identify signature injuries of war
  • Talk about DD214’s
  • Know why discharge status is so important 
  • Identify your role in preventing Veteran suicide
  • Directly contribute to ending Veteran homelessness
  • Link Veterans to additional assistance and resources
  • Incorporate harm reduction techniques to reduce risky behaviors Veterans may engage in due to issues of complex trauma and substance use disorders 

About the Presenters: Mathew Lindsay, LSW; Michelle Kamin-Lindsay, LCSW

Mathew is a U.S. Air Force Veteran and LSW, and has been providing case management and clinical services on the westside of Chicago for 10 years as a Special Education teacher, SMART Recovery facilitator, and therapist. Michelle is a LCSW with 19 years of experience in settings including the Cook County Jail, community mental health centers, child welfare, and private practice. Mathew and Michelle both have the honor of serving Veterans at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center, where they provide clinical services to homeless Veterans.

**PLEASE NOTE** Mathew and Michelle are not representing the Veterans Health Administration; they will be using their extensive professional and personal knowledge to provide this training.
