Workshop DescriptionTogether, we will engage on a professional and personal journey while exploring what it means to create a foundation of wellness, given life’s struggles with addictions, anxiety, depression and trauma.  Portions of this workshop will be interactive Don’t panic! Being curious is all you need.  You are invited to dress in your most comfortable clothes and be prepared to have some fun!  

Learning Objectives: Attendees will be able to... 
  1. Understand the intersection of Addictions, Anxiety, Depression and Trauma as a set of interdependent causes and conditions, and how to use this view to support increased health and wellness. 
  2. Explain how humans all Suffer, Survive and Thrive in life and be able to recognize this as an organic process  
  3. Understand how we all construct a View/perspective of reality, and can use curiosity to deconstruct and/or reconstruct our view to increase health.
  4. Understand what Right Action, Compassion, Awareness, Impermanence and Interdependenceare and how to use these skills for increasing wellness.
  5. Explain how Mindfulness Meditation and Awareness have become tools for wellness.
  6. Explain the connection between professional integrity and one’s personal view and how to use this understanding to promote change.
  7. Practice awareness throughout the day. 

Presenter Information: Vicki Goodman-Strenski has worked in both the mental health and substance use disorders fields for over 30 years. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Substance Abuse Counselor, Vicki has focused her career on supporting people in self-directed change designed to improve their psychological and physical health. Vicki has expertise in Anxiety, Depression, Trauma, and Substance Use Disorders, and utilizes various treatment modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral techniques, Motivational Interviewing, and Neuropsychology (combination of Neurobiology, Contemplative Practices and Psychology).  

Vicki worked at the UW Hospital in the Addictive Disorders Clinic and had a private practice with Family Therapy Center of Madison.  Within her private practice she taught groups on Mindfulness Meditation as a tool to increase psychological wellness.  She also taught continuing education workshops on both Mindfulness Meditation and on Dual Diagnosis (MH/AODA) throughout the state. She is currently working with Dr. Zgierska of the UW Family Medicine Clinic supporting her research on non-pharmacological options for pain management.  

In July 2015 Vicki and her family survived a traumatic rollover car crash. She has been imperfectly practicing what she preachs” since the accident. She is excited to present a fresh view of the intersection of addiction, anxiety, depression and PTSD. 

In-person Event Attendance: To ensure your safety, WAFCA will be requiring masking according to WCTC Campus Guidelines. All participants will be socially distanced and hand sanitizer will be made available. Registrants are strongly encouraged to be fully vaccinated for their own safety. Registrants experiencing any cold, flu, or COVID-like symptoms should not attend the event. Refunds will be made available to those who cancel at least 1 week prior OR for reasons of illness (with notification provided to WAFCA).

About our Offerings:

WAFCA has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 6778. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified.
