STATE BUDGET ACTION ALERT

Joint Finance Needs to Invest in Family Stability and Child Wellbeing   (Updated: May 25, 2021)

BACKGROUND:  The next two weeks are critical for ensuring that members of the Joint Finance Committee invest in programs and services that support family and child well being. In addition to basic investments in our families and our workforce such as increases in the Earned Income Tax Credit and child care assistance, the child welfare system is on the cusp of significant changes that have the potential to keep more children safely at home with parents and kin and begin addressing historic inequities and disparities in our systems.

WHY THIS MATTERS TODAY: The Joint Finance Committee is poised to take up the budget for the Department of Public Instruction TOMORROW and biennial budget decisions for the Department of Children and Families and Health Services will be on the docket as early as next week.

The voice of the human services sector needs to be heard. In the absence of our advocacy, Wisconsin's vision for a better, more equitable child and family serving continuum will not be realized.
