WAFCA has an excellent opportunity for an experienced professional to join a small, hard-working team based out of our downtown Madison office. This position requires you to work closely with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors to support the Association’s member agencies in their work to deliver outstanding human services and enhance the capacity of Wisconsin’s children and families to achieve their full human potential.

WAFCA Associate Director


In cooperation with the Executive Director, the Associate Director provides leadership and management to ensure that the association practices appropriate operational controls, administrative and reporting procedures, and has systems in place to effectively grow the association, ensure financial stability, facilitate member engagement and deliver quality services.

The Associate Director oversees project initiatives, including primary responsibility for managing the WAFCA Continuing Education Program.  The Associate Director manages association communications, monitors member satisfaction and assists the Executive Director in all efforts to deliver member value and identify new opportunities to strengthen and grow the Association’s impact. The ideal candidate demonstrates a collaborative, creative and engaging communication style, guided by the mission and vision set by the Board of Directors.

Operational Management (25%)

Oversee the daily operations of the organization:

  • Supervise accounting functions, payroll, benefits, and insurances.
  • Manage office technology/equipment and contracts including all office-related leases.
  • Ensure compliance with agency licensing and federal/state requirements.
  • Coordinate with Office Manager and Event Planner regarding office purchases and event logistics.
  • Monitor progress on strategic planning goals and initiatives, track member engagement and identify opportunities to enhance member benefits.

Member Relations, Communities of Practice and Project Initiatives (25%)

  • Facilitate Communities of Practice, including e-list oversight.
  • Oversee project initiatives and recommend new opportunities for partnership/collaborations.
  • Respond to member requests for resources/information on public policy, regulations, state contacts, and best practices.
  • Solicit potential Affiliate members and manage Affiliate member relationships including sponsorships of WAFCA events.
  • Support the Executive Director in designing member conferences and events that enhance member engagement and deliver high quality, meaningful, innovative networking experiences.
  • Attend Board of Director meetings and report on operations, communications, member relations and project initiatives.

WAFCA Continuing Education Program (20%)

Manage and oversee the operation of the WAFCA Continuing Education Program:

  • Convene advisory groups to identify topics and presenters.
  • Research, select, and contract with presenters.
  • Facilitate the development and implementation of webinars.
  • Review presenter materials and provide guidance and input to improve quality of presentations.
  • Collaborate with the Event Manager regarding all details of training logistics, such as facility contracts, registration, and payments.
  • Maintain operations and records in compliance with National Board of Certified Counselors Approved Continuing Education Provider requirements.

External relations and public policy support (15%)

  • Support the Executive Director by representing the association in meetings/gatherings with external partners and stakeholders.
  • Monitor association public policy interests and maintain working knowledge of policy priorities.
  • Provide public policy research and position development support.

Communications (15%)

  • Compile information and resources for regular member electronic newsletters.
  • Design and edit content and maintain updated distribution listing.
  • Oversee management /updating of website content.
  • Direct association social media strategy.


  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience with office management and budget oversight.
  • Demonstrated success building relationships and delivering quality customer service.
  • Ability to facilitate groups and work collaboratively with varying professionals and constituencies.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, comfortable with office technology and aptitude for learning new applications.
  • Experience with training and conference planning preferred.
  • Human services sector knowledge preferred.
  • Understanding of public policy research and analysis preferred.
  • Undergraduate degree required. Degree in related field preferred.


Commensurate with experience.  Health insurance, retirement, parking and other benefits, including flexible hours.


Some in-state travel and minimal out-of-state travel. Valid driver’s license required.
